I was watching home videos with my mom about a week ago, and of course the majority of them were of me yodeling and singing a million different LeAnn Rimes and Billy Gilman and Disney movie songs when I was little.
I used to do a lot of talent competitions at fairs and karaoke places at that age, and before all of them, the MC would ask, "What is your biggest goal in life?" or, "What do you dream of doing someday?"
And I always had the same answer.
In my 8 year old squeaky voice, I would say, "I want to play the Grand Ole Opry when I grow up!"
Well, whether or not I've grown up since then is debatable.
...but I do get to play the Grand Ole Opry.
Seriously.
I found out that I get to play the Opry on March 27th, 2010...AKA, my 16th birthday. Which makes it even cooler, if that's possible.
I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around the fact that this is actually occurring.
I've looked at the infamous "circle" on that stage, and gone over who has stood there through the years, always crossing my fingers thinking, "Well, maybe someday..."
When I wrote a song with my best friend for the first time, I remember thinking how amazing and unbelievable it would be to be able to do that for the rest of my life. To make songwriting my job. And then, the day after my 14th birthday, I was offered a publishing deal with SeaGayle Music.
I've wished for a record deal on my birthday candles since I was too young to know what a record deal really meant, and this year, I get to say that I'm signed to Sony Music Nashville.
When I was little, every time someone asked me what my dream was, I would say to play the Grand Ole Opry.
And, well...I get to now.
I guess the point of this blog is to just celebrate the fact that dreams really do come true.
I can sit here and say that these things are a product of hard work, which I believe they are to a point...but who am I to say that they're not happening because I dared to dream? Because I wished on a star when I was 8?
I really hope that every one of you keep wishing and dreaming. I'm so glad that I have.
Dreams are great.
God is greatest.
And you? You're pretty awesome yourself.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful moments with me. I love you.
Infinite x's and o's,
Jordyn
